Does anybody have any information as to the following?? T4 ASC. My father served in the ASC and as he was born in 1899 I would assume he didnt enlist until Nov/Dec 1915 (when he would have had his 16th Birthday). I know he served in Egypt, but as his service records are not available online (obviously destroyed by the bombing), I am having great difficulty in finding anything out. I know T4 stood for the 4th New Army and T was Horse Transport. But I would dearly like to know where he enlisted, where he trained (if indeed he did) and where he would have been based in Egypt,. I recall him telling me that they were issued with pistols more for the shooting of the rats which would take a flying leap at you !!! He had the traditional piccie taken reading a newspaper "sitting" on the Dead Sea, and I have been told that he was badly injured escorting a group of Pilgrims. Anybody got any ideas?? I cant get to Kew, but have asked for a copy of the Medal Roll online. I have his MIC and that is all. Thanks in anticipation. Beth Jones
Hi Beth and welcome to the forum You say he was badly injured, so i presume he was demobbed due to medical grounds, you might be able to find his name on the SWB list as they gave this badge to men how could not fight any more and were demobbed due to medical grounds. Have you tried the thread http://ww1talk.co.uk/showthread.php?244-Silver-War-Badge-(SWB) if you read this it may help your quest regards Keith
Hi Beth, Welcome to the forum and i hope that we will be able to help you. If your father was based in Egypt then he was probably at Alexandria which was the base for Egypt and Palestine. ASC Company 137 was based there after being formed in 1915 also 394 was based there after Gallipoli. The depot for 137 was Woolwich in London so he may have joined up there. Does any of this make any sense yet? Was he from London? What medals was he entitled to? Sniper
