BBC NEWS | UK | Backing for Armed Forces Day plan

An Armed Forces Day public holiday has been recommended by a government-backed study looking into improving public recognition of the military.
The report by MP Quentin Davies also said more state school pupils should be encouraged to join cadet forces.

Glad to hear it's being supported but the cadet forces idea will probably fail. The ATC etc already exists for those who want it and schools won't want the additional responsibility.

Incidents like these absolutely make me puke. Have we heard anymore about them?

Possibly they should enact a law that sets down in concrete that those convicted of this type of harassment to the forces, have to do their time within the forces instead of a small fine!

Hope they spend more than this:

I agree. Sending people who harrass the servicemen/servicewomen should be enlisted in the Armed Forces, so they know what it's like to be shot at and see people dying.

    Hi Pathfinder,

While I agree totally with your sentiments, I would not like to see these people drafted into the forces. Anybody who has served will know they need to rely 100% on the man or woman next to them. These morons would be a liability but would probably not make it out of basic training anyway.

I don't think we'd wish that on anyone, James, but I understand where you're coming from. These people need to understand the sacrifices made by those in uniform as they just don't get it.
