Allied broke Hitler's pride , the Atlantic Wall in September 1944.As the Allied moving deep through Normandy(defenders paradise during d-day),the more resistance they faced . However they pushed Axis back up to river Rhine . Operation Market Garden (Market was the airborne and Garden was the ground) now planned by the British mighty Field Marshal Bernard Montgomery to drop troopers behind the enemy-line . He wanted to encircle the Axis to engulf easily , but troopers have had to secure some bridges at Arnhem(about 95 km), Eindhoven , Nijmegen etc over Rhine , Waal etc.

Monty thought to invade Germany (through heartland) bypassing GS Line , to close the bloody battle earlier . To make all this fruitful , Allied urgently needed to secure some strategic bridges over Rhine , Waal and other rivers . OMG was the singlemost airborne operation(2 American+1 British)in history , About 35,000 men , 2000 vehicles , more than 250 artillery been dropped and more than 20 British airbases been used . Number of gliders been used in this single operation …… set a record till now.

Meanwhile , Oberst Erich Walther (a trusted colonel , saved Germans in Holland), positioned at Arnhem bridgehead with overall command . Despite intense bombardment since 17th September morning , British troopers and tank-column(as deep as 50 km) halted by German anti-tank fire . Advancement was as slow as 15 km , moreover took 2 days to clear up the Germans and reached 1st main bridge of north. By 19th night Luftwaffe bombard Eindhoven to cover German (Waffen ss) where the bridge was blown up , to stop Allied advancement .Germans also focusing south at Arnhem . Very next day streets of Eindhoven jammed by charred trucks . German reinforcement was made hastily , continuing bombardment to the Allied logistics at Eindhoven(mean to focusing south , ie ., Arnhem) . Walther made delay to the Allied for 2 days at Arnhem , let concentrating Panzers and the bridge was lost.

The allied suffered by loss here in such a way that raise a big question about the overall success of OMG ….
