Captain William Baynard Hynes was born in 1889 and played once for England as a forward. His one cap came against France in 1912. He played for the United Services and the Royal Navy. He served in WW1 and WW2. He was promoted to Lieut Cmdr in the RN on 15 July, 1917 and appointed Gunnery Officer HMS Royal Sovereign on 1 Mayt, 1919. Gazetted DSO on 14 January, 1921 for services in the sea of Marmora. He was a Director of Naval Intellingence, Royal Canadian Navy, 1931-33, after which he retired. Was called to the Bar (Inner Temnple) in 1938. Served WW2 1939-45 and became CBE in 1943.. Officer ofd the US Legion of Merit 1945. Also awarded bronze medal from Royal Humaane Society.
