    Carl-Siegfried Ritter von Georg Born - 27 Aug 1886 Oberndorf bei Schweinfurt Died - 5 Feb 1957 Kiel

    Von Georg entered the Kaiserliche Marine as Seekadett in 1905. Between 1914 and 1916 served on the light cruisers SMS Kolberg and SMS Regensburg. Became Kapitänleutnant in 1916 and assumed command of U57. In 1917 took command of U101.

    Received the Pour le Mérite on the 24th April 1918 in recognition of his success in sinking a total of 200.187 BRT by that moment of enemy merchant shipping and one British light cruiser. Also received the Max-Josef Orden which gave him the noble title of Ritter von on the 23rd of June 1918 by the Bavarian king Ludwig III. Later became CO of U148 and in 1919-1920 served in the famous Marine Brigade von Löwenfeldt.

    Von Georg was charged as war criminal by the British but acquitted in 1923.

    Annie - I dont know if you realise it but Karl von Georg was the commander of the German u-boat U57 that was responsible for sinking the 11 Scarborough trawlers during 1916 [see your post above].
