Ashton-under-lyne (Lancashire) WW1 memorial was unveilled in 1922. Thirty eight bronze panels contain 1,512 names of local men who gave their life for King & Country. A crowd of around 20,00 people gathered to watch General Sir Ian Hamilton unveil the memorial on September 16 1922, but disaster struck when a viewing platform collapsed injuring 40 people, some seriously. It is a very impressing monument: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Ashton_War_Memorial_01_(crop).jpg Anyone researching men from Ashton?
