Thanks K ... I've been there ... couldn't find him in Find a grave either ... :noidea: Been looking for a while - I've checked all the newspapers - but nothing yet ! Thanks for looking !
Given there is a quote attributed to no one (CO of 73 Sqn) and the article refers to 250 and 112 Sqns as RAAF units, I think it's safe to say he didn't write it, Annie. :becky: The 'fighter aircraft' he tested and didn't like was the Boomerang.
This is not an obit either however it is from the AWM. Two books on Caldwell were published almost simultaneously a couple of years ago. One is written by Australian aviation writer and TV presenter Jeffrey Watson. The other was the first book written by Kristen Alexander, one of the principals of Alexander Fax Booksellers in Canberra. Alexander and her husband bought a batch of Caldwell's letters to a friend at auction and these form a new insight into the life of CRC beyond what had been written before. I own both books and am currently reading the Alexander title. I have to admit to not liking the title of the Watson book simply because of CRC's dislike for his nickname. It will, however, be interesting to compare the two books eventually.
