During ww2 my mother (later to be a 'forces fraulien) was in Germany as a child. Her contribution to the German war effort was many trips with other school classes/Hitler youth into the potato fields armed with a glass jar to hunt and gather for a small reward Colarado beetles. These had been blamed on British and American air drops designed to destroy a food staple and source of fuel for the V2 rockets (tons of potato were needed for it's alcohol fuel), I think the British accused Germany of this as well. But is it all a myth, or propaganda, the beetles found really coming from populations already there?
