Hi All, In view of the cost of a photograph from the private websites such as the Maple Leaf Legacy and the BWMP i have decided to start a new Project, the aims of the project are set out below. I am already working with The Veterans Affairs Canada team and have been working with them for the last year or so. I'm hoping to also be working with a New Zealand and South African goverments who i have been in contact with for the last few weeks. The Project is called The Commonwealth Roll Of Honour Project and here are the aims. The aim of this project is to work in conjunction with the governments or similar bodies in each Commonwealth Country to develop or contribute to a source of FREE online information of their war casualties. Our hope is to include all the information we can, including attestation papers, service records, medal records, war diaries, photographs of headstones and memorials and any other information available. If you are interested in helping with such a project or you are looking for a relative and would like our help please join our group and become a part of the Commonwealth Roll of Honour Project. COMMONWEALTH ROLL OF HONOUR PROJECTS Please email me or PM me should you wish to help or if you have any questions. I hope that you will be able to join the Project and look forward to working with anyone who wishes to help. A proper website will hopefully be up and running within the next couple of months. Best wishes Mike (Sniper) eep: If anyone has a request for a photo of a wargrave you can contact me on wargraverequests@btinternet.com
You should get in contact with Spidge, he has a lot of Roll of honour stuff regarding the RAAF in WW2
Hi Mike, A very worthwhile project . Are you speaking with anyone in Australia about this? Good luck with your trip to Canada.
Hi Morse, Spidge and i have been working together for a few months now providing each other with photos. Hoping that Spidge will hold the RAAF database where people will be able to get free photos and information. Cheers Mike eep:
Hi Spidge, I've been talking to the Australian goverment about it and have recieved a reply but awaiting another from their photographic department. Mike
They do have an enormous amount of information which is spread over a large amount of quality sites. I am chasing something up for you however it is early days. Sadly I can't be more help being isolated in this tiny island.
Good luck with the project Sniper. Keep us informed. And I think this thread deserves to be stickied for easy reference
Thankyou Thankyou for that Kyt, really appreciate it. To bring you up to date i have a number of cemeteries completed here in the UK and in France. I have a volunteer in Uganda who works for the British Embassy out there. I have been talking to as i said the Australian Goverment and also to the Auckland War Museum. Not yet had a reply from the South Africans and i'm in talks with the Royal British Legion about them hosting the British War Casualties. Hoping to have more talks with them in the very near future. If anyone has any requests i'll do my best to fulfill them if i can. Many thanks again Mike eep:
Hi Mike Can't believe I haven't said good luck on this thread so...good luck with this project (probably said it elsewhere but to be sure...). Came back to this thread because I was just going through some pics a friend sent through from Tripoli War Cememtery, Libya. I'm not sure I sent everything I had through to Spidge. However, in going back through the pics, I came across an RNZAF headstone and several RAF ones. I will email them to you but also post them here for use by members or people researching. Won't be many, maybe three or four.
Sounds a real worthwhile project. Here's to its future and hopefully complete success. Good luck !!!!!
Hi Andy, All the photos i have are available to members and non members of the forum, all they have to do is let me know which ones they need and if i have them i'll be more than happy to email them to the person who asked for them. Thanks to both you and 51 Highland for the good luck message. The website is not far from going live and it will have its own forum which will not be covering the same subjects as this awesome forum. However it is being built by the same person, Lee, take a bow. Any photos or information about service personnel is always welcome and i'll try to connect them with headstones if they were killed or died while in service. I have one more Canadian who is buried in Australia and i'd have finished the Canadians on that continent, so if your near Perth please do go along and get the photo from Perth War Cemetery And Annex i'd be very grateful. Also have quite a few completed cemeteries in France, Germany, Canada, USA and of course the UK. So if i can help anyone just let me know and i'll do what i can for them. Take care Mike (Sniper) eep:
Unusual names In my research into RAAF deaths I came across this one which sadly did come true. Sergeant Ernest Norman Death. Posting at death 27 OTU Died 10/9/1943 Buried Chester Blacon Cemetery View attachment 234
I was most appreciative. I offered to rub the knees however the scourge of distance..............................
Hi Andy, Would certainly appreciate it. That would make a full continent complete for Veterans Affairs Canada which is a huge part done. I know there were only 3 casualties in Australia but with the distance beteen them this is awesome. A huge thanks to you and to Spidge for all your help. Now just need to start collecting the Brits and any other Commonwealth so if you guys are up for a challenge i can send you the spreadsheets that you need. Thanks again for all your help. Mike (Sniper) eep:
Mike, If I can organise it, we might be able to contact the local RSL's. I will see if I can get a lead into the head office and try for a piece in their state and "National' newsletter. Can you put together a brief of your plan of action and I will see if there is some interest. May take me a few weeks to get an appointment but we will have an answer at least.
Hi Spidge, That would be fantastic if you could organise that. I'll get the brief done over the next day or so and get it off to you. Have you told your contact in the Australian Photographic Dept about the project? If you could also contact that person and give them my email address which i will PM you as its different for the project. Many thanks again. Mike (Sniper) eep:
Hi Mike, No, because it is that Matt Smith that you mentioned. Since my last email to him he has not responded which is what we would have expected. Maybe I am being harsh however I do not think so. Did you have any luck with the site I sent you for Pierre in Belgium (In Memories)?
