    Update from CWGC ......

With the turbulent situation in Gaza now heading for settlement it is becoming clear that Gaza War Cemetery has not escaped unscathed. Preliminary reports suggest a significant number of headstones have been damaged, some beyond repair, and while the cemetery levels have suffered only minor disturbance from the shelling, areas of turf have been gouged and scorched. Nearby Deir al Belah War Cemetery is undamaged and our dedicated resident staff are all reported to be safe.

We will continue to build a full picture of the damage and make an assessment of what needs to be done to restore the cemetery. Our staff will begin the work as soon as it is safe for them to do so
