David Howie : Rugby Player

    This is one of a series of posts to mark the international Rugby players who died during The Great War. If anyone has further information on the men concerned, I’d be most grateful if it could be added to the thread.

    Howie, David Dickie played for Scotland

    Internationals: 7 : 1912 F+ W- I- E+ SA- ; 1913 F+ W-

    David Howie was born in 1888 at Rosebery Temple, Midlothian, son of Archibald and Jessie Howie of The Grange, Kinghorn, Fife; husband of Marie Winifred Howie of 1 Mayfield Gardens, Edinburgh.

    Played as a Lock/Prop for: Kirkaldy High School, Kirkaldy

    Remarks: Brother of Robert Howie - 4 caps in 1924.

    War service: Lieutenant, 2nd Highland Brigade, Royal Field Artillery.

    He died on 19 January 1916, in Cairo, and is buried in Cairo War Memorial Cemetery [Grave D. 267].

    Well I don't think it was Scrum !! :rolleyes: ... I found a family tree !

    DAVID DICKIE HOWIE - born c1887 in Temple, Midlothian to Archibald Howie
    married - MARIE WINIFRED GIBSON LINTON - 1914 in Kinghorn, Fife.
    David died in Alexandria, North Africa after an illness contracted in Galipoli. Lt in 2nd Highland Brigade, Royal Field Artillery.

    1901 census .... he was at Grange, Kinghorn, Fife, aged 12, a scholar, with father and stepmother.
