Introducing myself seems a bit conceited. Anyways, I am in high school, live in the United States, and am very interested in history. Especially 19th, 20th, 21st century history, and diplomatic conflicts. As for military history specifically, I'm interested in the usage of tactics and strategy.
Hey @billion57 ... welcome to the forum. Nope, introductions in a forum aren't conceited at all... it's how we get to know each other. It's much better than seeing a post somewhere and thinking "Uh... who *is* this dude?!" I'll look forward to reading your thoughts... lots of interesting threads here. Jump right in where a topic interests you.
I thought all young people were conceited, unlike all of us wise elderly types! At least you should be a little bit, rather than lacking self esteem. Express yourself, and be ready to find differing opinions. Have fun! Docendo discimus!!!
Hello 57Billion and welcome. We have been needing fresh faces for a while. I hopeyou stick around and ask 'stupid questions'. I put that in quotes because there are no real stupid questions (only stupid answers), for asking questions is often a sign of willingness to learn. Most of us in this forum are older than you, some considerably so, and have had the time of life to learn a thing or three. Kate, for one, is a specialist on the ACW (War Between the States, War of Northern Aggression, The South's Folly) so if that is your cup of meat she is usually knowledgeable. TP is more as a generalist as I recall, but an all round good egg. I am something of a polymath and a pedant who is the liberal leven to the crowd here. I, too, enjoy several centuries of conflict, not just this war of that war. Sometimes our discussions of history spill over into politics. We have had quite the cosmopolitan mix at times. I am American, Big Ten region.
Well there you are, Interrogator... I've missed your stellar wit and your posts. This statement you made, though... I'm afraid it's totally untrue. Kate works with Gettysburg data and is often found on the battlefield gathering info for her database of Gettysburg dead. Secondary is Antietam... but Civil War specialist? Only in my dreams... There is so much beyond Gettysburg and Antietam that I haven't a clue about. Your faith in my knowledge realm warmed the corners of my heart, though.. thank you for saying it even though it's inaccurate. And that "usually" brought on a giggle. Subtle!
Differing opinions? Here? Surely you jest! We all agree on everything in this forum... that's what makes us so interesting, right? Well, either that or Stepford Wives. Wait, I don't want to be that... think of something to argue about... fast! Actually you have a great point here, @thomas pendrake ... a little conceit or even arrogance never hurt anyone and it *is* better than the alternative of low or no self esteem.
Welcome to the forum billion, you won't find a better place to discuss history as you can read above.
