Gold Beach Landings

Discussion in 'World War 2' started by freddiestewart, Oct 27, 2007.

  1. Just been to Gold Beach while we were on holiday as my dad's father landed there, and that got me interested!
I know he was in the Hampshire regiment that landed there but I don't know anything much about it all. Can anyone tell me more?
    Thanks!

Hi freddiestewart, welcome to the forum.

Your father would have been a member of the 1st Battalion then. Here's a bit of reading to get you started:

    http://www.goldbeach.org.uk/english_content/hampshires.htm

However, the best bet is to get a couple of books that detail their involvement and activities. The best two are:

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Royal-Hamps...9603149?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1193517693&sr=8-1

I have the first one and will scan a few snippets for you tomorrow, and post them here.

What do you know about your grandfathers involvement in the war, any stories to tell? :)

Welcome freddiestewart and hope you can get all the info you want.

    Glad to have you aboard.

Tell us a bit more about yourself.

  5. I don't know much about him, as he died a long time before I was born, but he did survive the war and went on to have two children, one of whom is, of coure, my dad. He was called Frederick John Stewart (the same name as me!) And thats about all i know about him
