    This is one of a series of posts to mark the international Rugby players who died during The Great War. If anyone has further information on the men concerned, I’d be most grateful if it could be added to the thread.

    Alexander, Harry England

    Internationals: 7: 1900 I+ (1c) S= ; 1901 W- I- (1p) S- ; 1902 W- (1c) I+

    Harry Alexander was born on 6 January 1879, in Oxton, Cheshire

    Played as a Forward for: Bromborough School, Uppingham School, Oxford University (Blue 1897-98), Birkenhead Park, Cheshire, Richmond, Barbarians, Middlesex

    Profession: Schoolmaster at Stanmore Park Preparatory School

    Remarks: He was a County hockey player; a scratch golfer; a high-class ice skater and a professional singer. Played for the Barbarians v Newport (3-11) and v Cardiff (0-15) in 1905.

    War service: 2nd Lieutenant, 1st Battalion, Grenadier Guards, 3rd (Guards) Brigade, Guards Division.

    He was killed in action on 17 October 1915, his 13th day of active service, and is buried in the Arras Road Cemetery, Roclincourt, Pas de Calais, France [II. C.18].
