I have been told that this is possibly the best site to find info about a family friend who served in Bomber Command at both Linton on Ouse and Holme on Spalding Moor. The only information I currently have about Barry Wood (Air Gunner) is from some photographs we have following a recent bereavement. I will post all current info and photos and then keep everything crossed in the hope that someone out there can help to take our search forward. Hello again and thanks in anticipation, Regards, Nabber :help:
I am currently trying to find info on Spalding, but it is a bit thin on a quick search. What precisely do you need help with?
Thanks Kitty, For the info supplied so far, please see post under" The War in Europe The Air Campaign Against Germany - I am trying to find out any info relating to Barry Wood - Air Gunner or his crew. However as I am not a member of his family I think I am right in saying that I cannot obtain access to govenment archives. Ultimately I would be really pleased if I could trace him?? but that is probably wishfull thinking, but I am certainly going to try. Regards Nabber
ok i understand it may now be possible to access service records online at certain sites even if you are not family. however it does require a paid membership.
Probably ancestry.com is one site mate. That one seems to be the most likely as they have a lot of new records and of all types going up all the time. Costs around £96 a year for a basic membership but you can get free limited access as well. Sniper
RAF records Nabber You will be able to find out about his family and life on ancestry but there is no WW2 stuff on there at the moment. They have lots of WW1 stuff which is fascinating especially some of the service records. You can also access a site called Free BMD to get details about birth, death and marriages for Barry which is free. Have you tried putting his name in the online London Gazette historical search site. You have to try all sorts of combinations but if he got medals he may rate a mention and it will give your his service number.... More rarely there are also mentions sometimes in Flight Global (I love their online archive!).... Dee lane:
RAF Records Sniper and Dee, Thank you for your suggestions, I will try them and let you know how I get on, Many thanks, Nabber
