Hello everyone my name is Robbielynne and I am from Oklahoma..I have a keen interest in WW II..my Grandfather served in the Phillipines during the War..after he passed away we came upon his service records and since that moment I have been fascinated with it..
Hi there,,he was in the Army..not sure on what division..he passed away 10 yrs ago and I am trying to find out more about his service...my mom is looking for a copy of his records since they were misplaced a few yrs ago..he was there from 1942 to 1945..that I am sure about..
Have you tried applying for his records via the NAA? No guarantees from them as they lost a hell of a lot in a fire in the 1970s but there's every chance
I have heard there was a fire but we have discussed it..I have a notepad/diary of sorts that belonged to him from his time there and it has names and addresses of people he served with...it has where he kept score when they were playing cards,,I thought about putting out some feelers on some of the names or such..but don't want to really intrude on families/veterans..My grandfather hardly ever discussed it..
I'm sure they wouldn't see it as intruding. I bet they would love to hear from a vet's family member...especially one who wants to know about what they experienced etc
There is an idea then..there is a whole 2 pages of names and addresses/or where they are from..I know quite a bit more about the European Campaigns so I am just recently researching on the Pacific..this forum has a alot on the subject,,thanks for the welcome and information..looking forward to being a part of this community. Regards, Robbielynne
Good luck with your search. Maybe an idea to contact the local Veteran's Association for help. And enjoy your reading
Welcome Robbie, I hope you will enjoy this site. A lot of knowledgeable people, great moderators,(crawl), they are more free thinking than some sites. Cheers GW
