  1. Hi I've always had an interest in WW2 probably due to all the toy soldiers I had ! My father served in the R.A.F. in India as a petrol tanker driver just below the foothills of the Himalayas and my uncle served with the Chindits in Burma. My mother was a W.A.A.F. in St. Athens in South Wales.

    Hi Phil,

Firstly welcome to the forum. I was born at St Athan in the late 50's and was based there with the paras for a short time. My grandfather was an electrician for the MOD at the base. I dont suppose your mother has any pics of the base when she was there? The place has changed so much over the years including the largest hanger ever to of been built for maintaining aircraft, sadly it was never used and was a huge waste of public money. Its been sat there empty now since it was built. Enjoy the forum and please do post any questions you may have or share with us any research you would like to undertake.

  5. Hi Sniper. Thanks for the welcome. The only photos I have are a group photo outside a hangar and a parade photo. Presumely their passing out parade . Also a few of my mother and friends in the camp but all close ups not showing much detail ( unless you're into 1940s' girls in uniform ;) )
