    This is one of a series of posts to mark the international Rugby players who served in, and survived, The Great War. If anyone has further information on the men concerned, I’d be most grateful if it could be added to the thread.

    Archer, Herbert played for England

    Internationals: 3: 1909 W- F+ I+ ; Anglo-Welsh tour 1908 of New Zealand

    Herbert Archer was born in August 1884

    Played as a No 8 for: Blundell’s School, Guy’s Hospital, Bridgwater and Albion

    Profession: Medicine/Royal Army Medical Corps; GP at Nether Stowey

    War service: Royal Army Medical Corps. The Army List for December 1917 includes Temporary Lieutenant H Archer with seniority from 2 February 1917.

    Remarks: Played for London (3-24) and the Anglo-Welsh (0-24) v the 1908-1909 Wallabies.

    He died on 26 December 1946, in Nether Stowey, Bridgwater
