I stumbled across your forums when searching for some information of Carlyle Everiss, the New Zealand Air Force pilot who crashed and died in my, now, home village of Cowie In Stirlingshire, Scotland. I am a Civilian Instructor with an Air Cadet Unit in nearby Grangemouth where we have adopted the commemoration of the RAF Station that was in Grangemouth as one of our ongoing projects. Since 1979 cadets from the unit have visited Grand Sable Cemetry in Polmont near Falkirk and laid poppy wreaths on the graves of all of the pilots buried there who perished whilst training for war. We visited Poland last year to make a presentation of our report into the polish pilots who are buried at Grand Sable. This year we unveil a new memorial to the pilots of all nationality, at the site of the former airfield. This will be on 13th September and will include a fly past of the WW2 Battle of Britain Memorial Flight. Being an ex-serviceman, myself, I enjoy reading up on all aspects of military history and look forward to reviewing the information here on the forums. Cheers :drum:
A big welcome GazzaM. That is fantastic work you are undertaking in caring for those lost so far from home. well done. Do you have any pictures of the cemetery that you could share? And details of the memorial to be unveiled. I have heard a few details but not much. As for Everiss, for the other members I mentioned him on this thread: http://ww2chat.com/forums/memorials-cemeteries/2031-scottish-war-memorials.html Maybe you could tell me whether the local authorities have rectified the spelling mistake on his memorial or whether they are still adamant that they have it right? Look forward to your posts.
Welcome tot he forum GazzaM. Beware Spidge and Sniper, they'll destroy your knees by asking for pictures of war graves. Which ATC are you with? Sniper is also an officer with one.
Welcome Gazza, Great work you are doing. Don't listen to Kitty as I already have photos of the five RAAF headstones from Grandsable although as Kyt asked, a photo of the cemetery would be most welcome. RAAF deaths: RICKETTS, ROBERT JOSEPH PRIOR SLY, RONALD REGINALD STOKES, GEOFFREY KEELEY TUCKER, DAVID THOMAS WEEDEN, JEFFRY Two of these (5) lads also died in 1941.
