Greetings from 'sunny' Bradford! Maybe not. Ok, new guy most humbly seeks acceptance of peers - never betters. :becky: Father was WWII Bomber Command AG (Rear) in various aircraft types. One uncle served in all 3 main services, was captured by and escaped from Japanese in Singapore 1942 + captured by and escaped from Germans during Market Garden. Another two uncles served in Cyprus (EOKA period) with 1 DWR. I served in Aden (1966) with 1 York & Lancs Reg't + N Ireland (1969) with 1 PWO Reg't. Also, 2 years with 4 Para (TA) until slightly 'bent' when chute failed to deploy correctly - the infernal thing. eep: Aside:- All male members, and many female members, of my family have served in HM Forces for more than 250 years. Am I qualified to be a member here? :boink:
Welcome Robbo. More than qualified What squadrons did your father fly in? And what units were your uncles in?
Do you have just a passing interest in WWII? If so, most definitely! :Booty: Welcome, mate, hope you enjoy it here. Would be more than happy to hear stories, anecdotes, family history or whatever you find the time to post about.
Kyt. Dad served with 35 & 76 Squadrons. Uncle Eric with a Royal Navy (unit/ship unknown) a fusilier regiment (think Northumberland), commandos and 2 Para. Other 2 uncles (Harry & Les) served with 1st Bn Duke of Wellington's Reg't.
All very distinguished units. Have you read Chorley's To See The Dawn Breaking: 76 Squadron Operations? Quite a good book. And 35 Squadron has a number of books written about it, especially during it's Pathfinder period. Look forward to your posts - hope you share stories about your family and your own service.
