I have a relation who was in Burma ww2,and was disgusted at the Duke of Edinburghs, attendance.
    What are your thoughts?
Personally i disagreed with it.Prince Charles maybe, but Prince Phillip?,can't imagine what Arthur Tetherington thought.

I remember reading about Hirohito's state visit in 1971, and how the veterans all turned up and then turned their backs on the procession as it passed.

What is interesting is that during most of the post-war period Hirohito was considered to have played no direct part in the running of the Japanese war effort, partly due to MacArthur's propagandist rehabilitation, and it is only in recent times that "revisionist" historians have demolished this rather complacent attitude.
