British battleship HMS Irresistible abandoned and sinking 18 March 1915 during the Battle of Gallipoli.

Photo published in The War Illustrated 1 May 1915. The caption reads ........

The last moments of HMS Irresistible - This impressive photograph - replete with the tragic glory of war, shows the ill-fated Irresistible, after having been shattered by the explosion of a floating mine in the Dardanelles during an attack on the Narrows' Forts on March 18th. After the cowardly knock-out blow, the leviathan, listing heavily, drifted towards the beach, the helpless target of Turkish 6in. shells. The crew were transferred to the Ocean and the Irresistible foundered in deep water. Subsequently the Ocean struck a mine and sank, but nearly all the crews of both ships were saved
