I am just searching for some info for a friend of mine about her grandfather. I have very little to go on but was wondering if anyone knows of anyplace i can find online info..... All we know is that his name was Donald Hildred and that he flew spitfires for 3 years in england during WW2...she hasent been able to find out a squadron # or where he was based... any ideas would be greatly appreciated
Hi Colin do you know if he was in the RAF or RCAF? The first thing to do would be to apply for his service records. If he was RAF: Service records - RAF (making sure to ask for photocopies of the original files because the typed summary leaves out a lot of info) If he was RCAF: What to Search: Topics - Canadian Genealogy Centre - Library and Archives Canada The files would show details of assignments etc - from there we can help you with more background information
