    This is one of a series of posts to mark the international Rugby players who served in, and survived, The Great War. If anyone has further information on the men concerned, I’d be most grateful if it could be added to the thread.

    Dobson, John MC played for Scotland

    Internationals: 6 : 1911 E- ; 1912 F+ W- I- E+ SA-

    John Dobson was born in 1887

    Played as a Hooker for: Glasgow Academy, Glasgow Academicals

    Profession: Company Director

    War service: Second Lieutenant, Acting Captain, Scottish Rifles. MC Gazetted 6 April 1918: “For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in an attack. When the battalion on his left was held up during the advance, and a difficult situation arose, he at once led an attack on three enemy dug-outs which were holding up the advance and captured them. He then led his company to the capture of their objective. It was due to his fine leadership and courage that a serious check to the advance was overcome.”

    He died on 14 July 1936
