    This is one of a series of posts to mark the international Rugby players who died during The Great War. If anyone has further information on the men concerned, I’d be most grateful if it could be added to the thread.

    Dods, John Henry played for Scotland

    Internationals: 8 : 1895 W+ I+ E+ ; 1896 W- I= E+ ; 1897 I+ E-

    John Dods was born on 30 September 1875

    Played as a Forward for: Edinburgh Academy, Edinburgh Academicals

    Profession: Factor

    Remarks: Brother of F P Dods 1879-1910 (1 cap).

    War service: Civilian contractor to the Royal Navy

    He was killed on 30 December 1915, when the Warrior class Cruiser HMS Natal blew up at Cromarty, with 404 casualties and 299 survivors.

    He is not listed in the CWGC records due to his not being in the armed services.

    By the way ..... I could only find a casualty list for the crew .... do you already have the other casualty list Gareth ?

    No, I only know that Dods was on board through a Rugby book.
