Jean or Léon Larribau : Rugby PLayer This is one of a series of posts to mark the international Rugby players who died during The Great War. If anyone has further information on the men concerned, I’d be most grateful if it could be added to the thread. Gareth Larribau, Jean Aimé played for France (some references have his name as Léon Larribau) Internationals: 7 : 1912 I- S- W- E- ; 1913 S- ; 1914 I- E- Léon Larribeau was born on 1889, in Anglet. Played as a Fly-half/wing for: Périgueux, Biarritz Remarks: “He was a small man endowed with a exceptional pass which permitted his fly-half to stand 25-30 metres from the scrummage.” War service: Sergent, 12ème Regiment d’Infanterie Depending on your reference, he was killed in action on either 13 or 31 December 1916, at Poivre on the Verdun sector of the Western Front.

BIARRITZ Stade Léon Larribeau 10,000 seats The stage in which Serge Betsen and its partners officially called Leon Larribeau, international player of the BO (and Périgueux) with 7 selections, who died in battle during the First World War in Verdun in 1916. But it is customary to give at this stage the name of Aguilera, José Aguilera y Dedon Chapin, former owner of the domain on which the stadium was built, and died on 1 June 1884. Biarritz Olympique Pays Basque (BOPB) is informally called Aguiléra in reference to Don José Aguilera y Chapin, former owner of the domain on which the stadium was built, and died on 1 June 1884. In fact, the stadium is still officially Léon Larribeau, international player of BO death in battle during the First World War
Thanks for that. I had the details of the wrong man! I blame the different spellings of his name in reference books and my now rather elderly schoolboy French. Gareth
