    This memorial can be found beside the main road from Leek to Cheddleton And opposite to where Joshua Wardle had a factory

    This memorial was erected by Joshua Wardle to the memory of the men who worked for him and who fell in the Great War


    BELFIELD Percy, Pte G/15156, 7th Royal Sussex Regiment killed in action 13 August 1918.
    Son of George and Mary Ellen of 20 Union Street and husband of Lizzie of 24 Union Street, Leek. Buried at Beacon Cemetery, Sailly-Lauriette, France

    BISHOP Charles, Pte 201344, 1/4th Northumberland Fusiliers died 26 March 1918. Native of Leeds and residing in Leekbrook. Commemorated on the Pozieres Memorial, France

    BROOKES Joseph Pte 201584, Prince of Wales 1/5 North Staffordshire Regiment killed in action 14 March 1917 age 29. Son of Thomas and Sarah Ann of 63 London Street, Leek Commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, France

    CROMBIE Reuben, Pte 24158, 11th Manchester Regiment killed in action 26 September 1916 age 35. Son of Reuben and Mary Jane of 20 Crosshill Street, Leek and husband of Bertha Brown formerly Crombie of 14 Station Road, Milton, Stoke on Trent, Staffs. Buried at Regina Trench Cemetery, Grandcourt, France

    DAWSON Charles Rowland, Pte 30005, Prince of Wales 8th North Staffordshire Regiment died of wounds 30 November 1916 age 25. Born at Rainhill near Prescot Lancs and residing at Cheddleton near Leekbrook with his wife Emma, nee Gilbert and son of Andrew and Edna of the Flint Mill, Cheddleton. Father a native of Cheddleton. Buried at Terlincthun British Cemetery, Wimille, France

    GOLDSTRAW George, Pte 12391 8th Royal Fusiliers City of London Regiment killed in action on the 7 July 1916 aged 19. Born at Wetley Rocks, near Cheddleton, enlisted at Cheddleton and residing with his parents Samuel Cooper and Jane Goldstraw at Basford Bridge, Cheddleton. Commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, France

    KIRBY Leonard, Pte 196392, 77th Labour Corps, formerly Pte 39961 North Staffordshire Regiment died 10 September 1917 in England. Son of Mary, widow, of 82 Mill Street, Leek. Buried in Leek Cemetery. This memorial have him serving in the Durham Light Infantry. The only Kirby found was a George Leonard, Pte 23087, Durham Light Infantry, in the Medal Rolls, and not found to have died

    NOBLE Arthur, Pte 16818, Prince of Wales, 7th North Staffordshire Regiment, Died of wounds 27 January 1917. Son of William and Mary A of 43 London Street, Leek. Buried at Amara War Cemetery, Iraq. Native of Leek

    RENSHAW Victor, Pte 43011, 1st South Staffordshire Regiment, formerly 17559 North Staffordshire Regiment killed in action 4 October 1917 Enlisted at Leekbrook and living with his parents Samuel & Annie at 4 Talbot Street, Leek. Commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial, Belgium
