Memorial service for war victims - Crewe Chronicle

BRAVE RAF crew members who lost their lives during the Second World War when their plane disintegrated over Bridgemere will be remembered in a memorial service on Sunday.

A memorial stone now stands by the roadside of the A51, near Bridgemere Garden World, where people will turn out to pay their respects at the annual service.

It is 64 years since the Wellington bomber piloted by Flight Sgt Leonard Joseph Timperley crashed at the site, killing him and the other five crew members.

Members of the public are invited to join The Royal Air Force Association, Nantwich and District Royal British Legion and members of squadrons of the Air Training Corps at the service.

Author Derek Inskeep, who published a commemorative book Wings Of White Linen last year, said: “It is important these people are remembered and especially we would like younger generations to be educated about it.”
