The distinctive blockhouses look like illustrations in a young adult book on 18th century Canadian-British frontier forts that I read when I was 10 or so (can't believe they credited "young adults" with the interest to read something like that; I'd be surprised to see anything like it published today). So maybe that narrows it down to the Great Lakes (real narrow, right?). So, I'm guessing either Michillimackinac (sp?) or Detroit. Doubt it's New York's Fort Niagara.
Correct! Fort Niagara would be on the other side of the trees just to the right of the blockhouses across the Niagara River. I took this pic from the inside of the Octogonal guardhouse outside the southern end of Fort George.
