    This is one of a series of posts to mark the international Rugby players who served in, and survived, The Great War. If anyone has further information on the men concerned, I’d be most grateful if it could be added to the thread.

    Baker-Jones, Paul Esmond Russell played for Wales

    Internationals: 1: 1921 S-

    Paul Baker-Jones was born as Paul Jones on 27 December 1894. He changed his name by deed poll on 13 October 1919.

    Played as a Centre for: Blundell’s School, Royal Artillery, The Army, Newport

    Profession: The Army

    War service: Captain, Royal Field Artillery; he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Regular Forces while acting as a Lieutenant in the Territorial Force on 4 August 1916.

    Remarks: Paul Baker-Jones made 20 appearances for Newport in the seasons 1913-1914 and 1920-1921. He was the son of Thomas Baker-Jones, 6 caps for Wales 1882-1885, and the scorer of Wales’ first try in an international; v Ireland in 1882.

    He died in May 1934 in Quetta, India
