    This is one of a series of posts to mark the international Rugby players who died during The Great War. If anyone has further information on the men concerned, I’d be most grateful if it could be added to the thread.

    Kendall, Percy Dale (‘Toggie’) played for England

    Internationals: 3 : 1901 S- ; 1902 W- ; 1903 S-

    Percy Kendall was born on 21 August 1878 in Prescott, Lancashire, the Son of Francis Henry and Margaret Eulalie Kendall. Husband of Kathrine Minnie Bingham Kendall (nee Higginson).

    Played as a Fly-half/Scrum-half for: Elleray School New Brighton, Tonbridge School, Cambridge University, Blackheath, Birkenhead Park, Cheshire

    Profession: Solicitor

    War service: Lieutenant, 1/10th (Liverpool Scottish) Battalion, The King’s (Liverpool) Regiment, 9th Brigade, 3rd Division. He was commissioned on 14 October 1914.

    Remarks: Captained Cheshire v New Zealand in 1905. Within 12 hours of the outbreak of hostilities on 4 August 1914, in company with fellow international J Baxter he offered the Birkenhead Park RFC ground to the military and volunteered for service.

    He was killed in action at Ypres on 21 January 1915 and is commemorated in the Kemmel Churchyard memorial, Heuvelland, West-Vlaanderen Belgium [Special Memorial. 14].

    He was the captain of the Cheshire team against the All blacks on 9th December 1905

    Son of Francis Henry and Margaret Eulalie Kendall, of Liverpool; husband of Kathrine Minnie Bingham Kendall (nee Higginson), of The Glebe House, Walmer, Kent. Former Rugby Union player.

    who died age 27
    on 10 January 1915
    Son of W.N. Turner, of Mossley Hill Drive, Sefton Park, Liverpool. Former Scotland International Rugby Football Player (Capped 15 times, Captain 1913). His brother William also fell.

    Frederick is remembered at St Hildeburghs Church Hoylake Cheshire - which has the War Memorial for the Royal Liverpool Golf Club Hoylake

    There are two inscribed brass panels - with the names of Members of the Royal Liverpool Golf Club who fell in the two world wars.
