This is one of a series of posts to mark the international Rugby players who served in, and survived, The Great War. If anyone has further information on the men concerned, I’d be most grateful if it could be added to the thread. Percy Lawrie (318 appearances 1907-24) Lawrie's club record of 206 tries in 318 games has survived for the best part of a century and is very likely to remain unbeaten ( ... though I think it has been already ! ) Lutterworth-born Lawrie made his Leicester debut as a 19-year-old and played as a wing before moving to centre. The intervention of the First World War cost him the chance to add to his two England caps. Leicester Tigers 1918 26th December 1918 The new Members' Stand is officially opened for the first Tigers game in 3 1/2 years for the game against the 4th Leicestershire Regiment. On the same day Percy Lawrie with his 154th try overtakes Harry Wilkinson as the club's leading try scorer. He eventually finishes with a still unsurpassed 206 tries.
Annie Thanks for the extra information. It's hard to envisage an English player of today scoring 206 tries! Gareth
