    "The pain lingers on.."

    I grew up in the 60's and 70's and Pink Floyd's "The Wall" was made in the late 70's - still one of my all time favourites - and at that time the Blitz was very much in the minds of my parents generation. Most people I knew, knew some-one who had died in the air-raids - I remember as a child hearing my relatives talking of a family who were sitting down to Sunday lunch when a V1 landed on their house and they were killed.

    My father, at the age of seven, lost his home in the the Coventry Blitz. He wrote much later of growing up as virtually a refugee. My mother-in-law still speaks of going to school carrying a gas mask. And when I drive to work, I often go past the Harvester Restaraunt in Southborough Lane Bromley, built on the site of the Crooked Billet pub, and I always remember that 22 people died there in a V2 strike.
