One of my rellies won the DCM and was wondering if there is a way i can find out what it was for. Thanks Sniper (Mike)

Greetings, I am very interested in the 10th KRRC movements between July and December 1915 in particular what was happening to the battalion on or shortly before 7th December 1915 when Rifleman R/128 Harry John Randall was killed in action. Ideally copies of the war diary for this period would be appreciated if possible but any information would be gratefully received. Many thanks, Ant
I am seeking info on my Great Grandfather who was killed 1915 with the 7th Btn Royal Munster Fusiliers. Appreciate any help. Name: James Regan Rank: Private 1414
Sniper, I have the book entitled "The Kings Own" volume 3. It covers from 1914 to 1950. Theres about 140 DCMs listed from WW1. Let me know the name and I'll try and find any mention in the main text for you. It's about time I read it again.... Trav.
And Fritz, if there is any mention of a Joseph Williamson in the book relating to the 4th Kings Own I would be eternally grateful. He was in Mespot and was, according to Family lore, a batman to the Provost Marshall who was Victor Maclure(?) the actor. Trav.
Hi Trav, Thanks for the offer. The name is CSM Frederick Lelliott DCM. Joined around 1903. According to what i have heard and read he got it for being a morale booster when taking teams out to fix the barb wire and trenches. Sniper
Page 49... " In the sector held by 1/ Kings Own from the end of the battle of Armentieres until the following summer (1916) the exposed trench of the railway barricade was often shrouded in snow, fog and mist. Owing to its poroximity to the enemy trenches it was here that most of the deorations were earned." "C.S.M. F. Lelliot was another who always showed himself ready to lay out wire or undertake repair work." Page 494. (Awards) D.C.M. Lelliot, F. Regards, Trav.
Wow nice list. How long did it take you to compile that much information? I should probably show this to my grandfather.
I'm offering look ups (within reason) from the following 1914-18 regimental/battalion/brigade/divisional histories. --------------------------------------- [/quote] Hi - I am new to the forum today and my interst is Berkshire Yeomanry history but I dont see any direct reference to it on the forum. I am trying to trace my granddads war below are his army numbers and regiments can you help with further details Royal Field Artillery 68473 Driver Royal Irish Regiment 18626 Private Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers 42943 Private Thanks Mandy
Mandy, I guess your Grandads name is George Hennessey as his details match. His medal card will say the date he arrived in theatre and possibly the place and which medals he got. If he does not have a 1914-15 Star then likley he was conscripted after 1916. If he got a star then he volenteer before 1916. If he has 1914 star then he was in from the start. You local libruary should have free access to Ancestory which can access the medal card and if you are very lucky there will be "soldier record cards" with enlistment and distcharge docs. The 1911 censor will list him agaist his place of residence before the war and list his age, family and proffesion etc. You can ask Regimental Museums if they have any records on him and where he served. I am a novice myself. As he survived the war there is limited info. Ask all your relatives and older friends for information about him and build a file. Good Luck Wayne
