Died: 30-Jun-1918 aged 38 of 'Spanish' 'flu in Hull, Yorkshire Buried: Lutterworth (St. Mary) Churchyard Leicestershire Memorial: Plaque on wall of War Memorial Cloister at Winchester College in section France, Flanders - Reginald Liddon, Major Royal Air Force, started at Winchester 1894 The departure of the Rector ( Montague Alderson ) has been attended by a very heavy blow which has fallen on the family by the untimely death of his youngest brother, Major Liddon Alderson, of the R.A.F., fourth son of the late Canon and Mrs Alderson - who died in a Military Hospital at Hull on Saturday night ( 29 June 1918 ) from a heart failure, following a serious attack of influenza. He was visiting at the Rectory only three weeks ago, and then seemed in his usual health. A wire reached his mother and the Rector on Friday morning as they were preparing to take their leave of the Rectory, and they at once left for Hull. He was just about to train as ferry pilot when taken ill. FUNERAL OF MAJOR ALDERSON: The internment of Major L Alderson took place on Wednesday afternoon (3 July 1918), with full military honours, in the Parish Churchyard. The body was brought from Hull the previous night. The church was closely filled with parishioners, and many waited in the churchyard. The service in the church was choral, the Rev. S. J. Jameson (Cotesbach) took the first part, and the Rector (brother of deceased ) read the Lesson and also took most of the service at the graveside.
