    The Battle started off with the RFC enjoying air supremacy, with its FE 2b and DH 2 fighters being more than a match for the German Fokker Eindekkers. However, things changed for the worse when the Germans introduced the Albatros D.I and D.II fighters that were better than the British pushers. Books to look at include:

    Somme Success by Peter Hart, ISBN 0 85052 741 4;

    The Royal Flying Corps by Ralph Barker, ISBN 1 84119 470 0; and of course

    Volume II of The War in the Air by H A Jones.

    It still sounds a lot.

    What time-frame is he talkiing about - the entire July-November period? And does it include losses from all causes or air combat alone?
