    This is one of a series of posts to mark the international Rugby players who served in, and survived, The Great War. If anyone has further information on the men concerned, I’d be most grateful if it could be added to the thread.

    Duncan, Robert Francis Hugh played for England

    Internationals: 3 : 1922 I+ F= S+

    Robert Duncan was born on 10 June 1896 Wenvoe, Glamorgan

    Played as a Lock/prop for: Cardiff University, Guy’s Hospital, Barbarians, Middlesex

    Profession: Sales representative

    War service: Temporary Second Lieutenant from 6 December 1914, later Captain, 16th (Cardiff City) Battalion, The Welsh Regiment, 115th Brigade, 38th (Welsh) Division; Mentioned in Despatches

    Remarks: Son of R T Duncan (Cardiff, Barbarians). Played for Barbarians: v Cardiff (5-6) v Newport (0-36) in 1920; v Cardiff (10-5) v Swansea (3-11) in 1921. Served during the 1939-1945 War as a Lieutenant Colonel, Royal Welsh Fusiliers, in India and the Far East.

    He died October 19 1981 Henley aged 84 :(

    I wonder why Robert played for England when he was born in Wales ? :confused:
