    This is one of a series of posts to mark the international Rugby players who served in, and survived, The Great War. If anyone has further information on the men concerned, I’d be most grateful if it could be added to the thread.

    Campbell, Samuel Burnside Boyd played for Ireland

    Internationals: 12 : 1911 E+ S+ W- F+ ; 1912 F+ E- S+ W+ SA- ; 1913 E- S- F+

    Samuel Campbell was born on 29 June 1899

    Played as a Forward for: Foyle College, Edinburgh University, Derry

    Profession: Medicine

    War service: Lieutenant, Royal Army Medical Corps from 16 December 1914. As a Temporary Captain, he relinquished his commission on 16 December 1918 and was granted the rank of Major.

    He died on 1 March 1971

    Samuel Campbell was a rugby international forward. He played for Edinburgh University and Derry. Between 1911 and 1913 he won twelve international caps. He won a Military Cross in the First World War.
