Sgt. Lewis was lost in this incident....... 22 February 1941 209 Squadron Lerwick I L7263 WQ-L Missing on patrol and possibly crashed in position 5340N 1240W. 14 fatalities. Coastal Command Losses Vol.1 - McNeill Regards Peter
Thank you Peter ! ... I just don't like to ignore these young men when I come across them by accident - I'd like to think that somebody will be pleased to find them someday !hwell:
The Lerwick was not a successful aircraft and one imagines the men who flew them very much felt they had been given an inferior aircraft to the Sunderland (Cheaper to carry on production than stop; someone's got to fly 'em). The wiki entry mentions the loss of Owens a/c, L7263 Saro Lerwick - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I found this and that's what you said Peter ..... Isn't 14 a lot though ? .... I didn't think they were allowed a crew that big ! hwell:
Hi I have done a web page about my great uncle Ronald Fyfe 44549, who was lost on the Saro Lerwick L7263 WQ-L See here. http://homepage.ntlworld.com/clippers/in_memory.htm Kevboy
