FOREST GROVE - Wilbur J. Roofener, 88, Forest Grove, died July 20, 2008, at his home.

Services have been held.

Mr. Roofener was born Nov. 26, 1919, in Corkery, Mo. He worked in Oklahoma lead and zinc mines and was a World War II, U.S. Army, veteran. He served from 1940-1949 and earned the rank of sergeant.

He married Louise Webster in 1948 in Missouri. They moved to Oregon and in 1959 settled in Cherry Grove.

He worked as a meat cutter for several Oregon companies, including Kummer Meat Packing in Hillsboro. He retired after 28 years.

He was a member of the Council Creek Ward, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

He enjoyed fishing and hunting and enjoyed watching sports. He supported his grandchildren in their sports programs.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Corbyt and Oma Roofener; his brothers, Willard and James; his sisters, Nola, Alice and Delores; and his wife, Louise, in 1992.

He married Merrie Jo James in 2004.

Survivors include his wife, Merrie Jo; children, Terry Everett, Sharon Sharp, Bob Roofener, Jimmie Roofener, Doug Roof-ener, and Bradley Roof-ener; stepchildren, Nancy Gore, Michael and Patrick Batalgia, Linda Reed, Jodi Lanz and Fred Blauvelt; his brothers, Bob and Bill; and 17 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Remembrances: Gaston High School sports program.
