POLISH Prime Minister Donald Tusk and 150 government employees were evacuated from his offices today after a World War II shell was found in the building, an official said.

The shell was discovered in the ceiling "by workers doing renovation work in a reception room on the first floor" of the government building, government guard spokesman Dariusz Aleksandrowicz said.

Mr Tusk and "the 150 people who work in the building were evacuated as a precaution", he said, saying that de-miners were called to remove the device.

Shells and bombs dating from World War II are frequently found in Warsaw, where major battles were fought during the Nazi German occupation of the city in World War II.

Strewth, their security must be a bit lax if it lay undiscovered for so many years. I'd have thought they would have searched every inch on a regular basis with metal detectors etc
