I finally got to the Shuttleworth Collection yesterday, for one of their evening air displays, and if I regret anything its that it took me getting on for fifty years to get there. Much less crowded than most other displays, but on a beautiful summer evening (which we haven't had many of this year) it is a sublime experience watching and listening to that wonderful machinery. If you are into 1930's, WW1 and pre-WW1 aircraft (and cars), which I am, its especially good, but there is a WW2 presence as well. I attach some of the WW2-relevant photos here. My stills camera is a basic compact so not much good for photos of airborne aircraft, but my video camera is better at that and I got some good video footage, about 10-15 minutes worth. I've never succeeded in transmitting such long video footage by file sharing methods, but if anyone is really interested I can put it on a CDR and post it the old-fashioned way
Wonderful, thanks Adrian. I was there twice in 99 and it is truly a piece of heaven for an airhead. My interests naturally lie in the WWII stuff as well but all of the flying was magnificent. Shuttleworth is where I saw my first flying Spitfire (the Mk V) flown by Sir John Allison, the guy who pranged the 109G, "Black Six". The way the aircraft "fly the curve" is something that will stay with me and I hope to see it again in the not too distant future. Great to see the Lizzie with her pod too.
