I mentioned in another post that I'm doing extensive work with making a database of soldier's killed at the Battle of Gettysburg. One of the first legs of the journey was going through the records at the National Cemetery and visiting there often, too. I can't begin to describe the feelings that came with seeing how many of the names, ranks, etc. that ended up on the headstones were inaccurate. It is incredibly sad. Just as one example out of hundreds... The fallen soldier's name is SGT Gorham Righter from Co. C, 11th New Jersey. His stone says James B. Rister. Just as sad are all the unknowns... and the only records left of these people are things like" Unknown with red chin whiskers."
