Can anyone please tell me - what would be the average top speed for these craft? For steam picket boats that HMS London, Queen, Prince of Wales, Triumph used at the Z Beach landings 25 April 1915?

    With thanks

Hi Victor Bennett and welcome !! :)

I really can't answer your question I'm afraid ..... but I read somewhere that the smaller boats ended up using oars ..... I'll keep looking to verify that .... in the meantime the Royal Naval Museum has a restored Steam Picket Boat ... maybe an email to them would give you the information !! :)

I would have said about 8 knots maximum Annie.

Thank you Cally...8 knots will do nicely.

I can work out the maths from that.

    Thank you and best wishes

    Hi,

Have settled for five knots... given that they were each towing three pulling boats filled with troops (approx 120 in all.)

    Thank you again

I think that would be a realistic assessment Victor.
