I don't know why I bother to post queries on the boards Annie; I should simply establish a permanent comms link to yourself!

As always, many thanks. I will pass the pics on to my 'translator' since my French is at the "shammy leather, plastique bucket" level.

Do you have a link to the other researcher re the Cenotaph?

I know I'm pushing, but any chance of a higher res. pic? Ta

Annie, knowing your penchant for service chaplains, I found that Nouais is Rev. Father Henri M. Nouais, C.S.Sp, Croix de Guerre. The Holy Ghost fathers (CSSp) were the irish missionary order who built & operated St Mary's College (College of the Immaculate Conception - CIC) and my alma mater Fatima College. It would appear his connection to Trinidad and why he is on our Cenotaph is his long connection/stay here as both Teacher/Priest at CIC.

    That would be nice!
Although his name is on the POS Cenotaph, it is also (with 17 others) on a 2' x 3' bronze plaque here in the Museum all of whom are CIC old Boys/Staff, killed in the war. How and why we have it, I put to my boss this pm, Gaylord, and he says many many years ago, an old house near CIC college was being demolished and the plaque was rescued by some kind soul who eventually presented it to the museum many years ago.
My feelings on the matter is that this should rightly be in the school's chapel, and while he agrees with me, Gaylord is a bit sceptical whether the school would be interested. Still, as Fr Nouais' name tops the list, perhaps with a cv on each of the names I can put it to the Principal and see what he thinks.

Well there's another little project for you !:rolleyes: or even get the kids to do it as a school project !!

Do an Honour Roll of all the 18 on the plaque .... on a little website with pictures etc ! .... and then give the plaque to the school !

That way Gaylord would be happy and the school would be pleased too ! :D

Tell us what you need and we'll see if we can help you !!

Found this bit about Fr Nouais and the reason for his croix de guerre :

Born at Rouge (Loire Inferieure) France, 22 Feb 1875. He was Professor at CIC when the war broke out and was the first to announce himself at the French Consulate in POS, in answer to his country's call for active service. He left trinidad ex FMS Antilles on 3 Aug 1914; His most earnest desire was to be in the very front ranks, but owing to his advanced years and none too robust state of health, he was given the post, first of "Infirmier" and afterwards of Interpreter to the Portuguese Expeditionary Force. He was killed by a shell, whilst bravely trying to find shelter for civilians during the bombardment of a village some distance behind the line, on 4 Feb 1918. He was awarded the War cross posthumously. FYB1919
