Thought I'd post this thinking it might be of use to someone. If its been posted before then I apologise. UK National Inventory of War Memorials
Hi CXX. You have to pay for any images you ask for and when the volunteers took the photos they were charged for having them uploaded onto the database. Open this up to the forum, does anyone fancy starting a project where they do this service for free? Spidge and i are already doing war grave projects and i'm hoping that mine will be back up and running soon. If no-one wants to take up the challenge and i have enough volunteers i'd be happy to do this for the forum. As with my war grave project i will make this a free service to one and all. Sniper (Mike)
sounds good to me, I knew one of the original memorial volunteers, who might just be still have his images from the Peak District, otherwise I'd be willing to lend a hand where I can. Would this be integrate dinto your wargraves project or a seperate entity?
Probably intergrated into the war graves project in time. But have to get a National listing from somewhere and make out the spreadsheets for them. Its a long tedious job but i have time on my hands at the moment. Look forward to working with you again Kitty. Thanks for the offer. Sniper
I was part of the War Graves Project till I found that they was charging folks for the images that I supplied free and gave up my spare time for. Mind you I did get strange looks in Cemeteries in Glasgow when I was taking pictures of war graves . Undertakers was looking at me in a strange way thinking I had lost it, why well I work in a undertakers and we are a tight community and we all know each other. In france and belgium was a lot more easy less folks actualy knew what I do for a living . But due to problems with my legs I cant kneel down as much to take pictures no more but would be happy to lend a hand if any one needs it . Dan
Welcome to the forum Dan. The reason I started my project was due to a site over here wanting to charge an Aussie woman an outrageous amount for a photo of her brothers grave. Her brother left home in 1940 when she was nine and she never saw him again. I provided the photo that one of the forum members took for me. I am told she held the photo and cried uncontrollably for two days. I have just had an offer from a chap in Scotland to photograph all of my requirements there. He did say that Shetland, Islay and Nunton will have to wait until next summer.
