ADF to remove WWII island bombs - ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation)

A defence force explosives team will go to central Queensland next week to remove bombs dating back to World War II that have been found on an island.

The explosive devices were found at Fairfax Island off Gladstone.

The island is part of the Capricorn Bunker Group and was used as a practice bombing range in World War II.

Police have imposed an exclusion zone around the area.

The Army's ordnance demolition team from Enoggera, in Brisbane, will inspect the bombs before removing them.

The Australian Defence Force (ADF) says anyone who finds a similar device should not touch it and immediately call police.
