For a country that still refuses to completely reconcile its collaborationist past with its perception of a country of resisters, this is rather ironic:

According to McAuley's Against All Odds, the Pedestal convoy was spotted near Gib by a French civilian aircraft that proceeded to broadcast position and make-up of the convoy. McAuley's comment was that, for the most part, the "Heroes of the Resistance" didn't really come out of the woodwork until the Allied invasion showed promise. While I don't agree entirely with this comment (having read so much about Mossie-induced prison breaks, agent dropping and Lizzie ops), there certainly seems to be a good case for claiming "mass collaboration". Those photos exhibited recently of Paris under occupation caused an uproar as to how "pleasant" things appeared.
