Austal is an Australian company started up in Western Australia where I used to live. They're well known as builders of high speed ferries and smaller naval vessels like our new Armidale-class of patrol boats. A mate of mine in the old truck world works as an engine room designer/equipper.

The LCS isn't that small, Heidi. At 127 metres, she's about frigate-sized. I reckon the class will replace the existing Oliver Hazard Perry class of FFGs. My one concern with this ship has been the aluminium alloy build. Aluminium is what got the RN into trouble in the Falklands. Used to lessen top weight, it was found to not provide much protection and was effectively deleted from subsequent new classes of ships built, IIRC.
