It's probably so widely used because it's on the National Archives World War II Photos page World War II Photos 111. "A Nazi soldier, heavily armed, carries ammunition boxes forward with companion in territory taken by their counter- offensive in this scene from captured German film." You could dig into what German units were in Belgium in Dec (1) 1944. If anyone has any hints on what type of units, that might help too.
Proverb for the day: It's not about knowing where things are, its knowing how to find them that gets you ahead! FYI I looked on thinkquest.org for the file but didnt get any results, so I searched Google for the image name and found the very similar link to the one you posted, which got me the image. Once I had that I used the image number on Google "signal corps photo 197561-S" which got me to the national archives. Once I had the NARA number I got wikipedia, then the link to defenseimages.mil... then I kinda dead ended I'm still trying to find the image of my grandfather who was an instructor at the B-17 Radio Training School. I've only seen the photo once and it was a b&w photo copy. It's not as easy :{
Good work Ferhilt This is the film from which the still is suppossed to be taken from but I cannot find that particular shot: THE ENEMY STRIKES - Captured German Film shows their side of The Battle of the Bulge But at 6 mins 16 secs there is a pic of someone who looks remarkably similar
Not really but being completely ignorant of German insignia I wouldn't really know what I was looking for or what it meant
Brilliant Stuff!Members. I'm happy with all the information you have provided. Hey Ferhilt,you mention that he was a nazi soldier,think he was just a regular noram german soldier. He's uniform is just a plain uniform.But thanks for you're help.
